Z-Wave Alliance Reaches 900th Product Milestone

By Andrew Rafter on September 26, 2013   /   Z-Wave Z-Wave Compatible Z-Wave Device    /   0 Comments

The Z-Wave Alliance, an open consortium of leading global companies that oversees Z-Wave Wireless technology, today announced another milestone in the exploding smart home market: the certification of the 900th Z-Wave product.

With 900 products on the market, Z-Wave continues to extend its position as the most widely adopted protocol in the world for control and automation products including Vitrum lighting fixtures.

"The Alliance congratulates First Alert for achieving this smart home landmark," said Z-Wave Alliance Chairman Mark Walters.

"For Z-Wave, the milestones keep coming at an ever increasing pace. It was only four months ago that we announced the 800th certified Z-Wave product, and just 8 months before that for the 700th product.

"We look forward to continuing our leadership in every sphere of the emerging smart home space and the Internet of Things.

The 900th product is First Alert's new Z-Wave compatible smoke alarm, ZSMOKE, which offers the consumer added notification capability.

For example, if the smoke alarm is activated while the homeowner isn't home, it can send its alert signal to a Z-Wave based home control gateway, which in turn can alert the homeowner via a text on their smart phone, wherever they may be.

The homeowner can then react to the alert with an appropriate response, ranging from having a neighbour check on the house to calling the fire .

"As the most trusted and recognised brand in home safety, we're proud to have released this connected smoke alarm as the 900th Z-Wave product. In addition, we at First Alert have released another product, in the form of a combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm, and we look forward to developing more products that utilize Z-Wave technology," says Sara DeLuca, product manager at First Alert.

Z-Wave powers the world's largest ecosystem of smart home products, and is particularly dominant in the home security industry, where it provides connectivity for more than 90% of the market of "lifestyle" security products.

With its Z-Wave addressable smoke alarm, First Alert joins the likes of ADT, Vitrum, Vivint, Honeywell, Linear and numerous other market leaders in home control systems that are powered by Z-Wave.

Z-Wave To Demo Home Control From Top Of Mountain

By Andrew Rafter on September 12, 2013   /   Z-Wave Z-Wave Case Study Z-Wave Compatible Z-Wave Dealer Z-Wave Design Z-Wave Device Z-Wave Dimmer Z-Wave Home Automation Z-Wave Home Control Z-Wave Installation Z-Wave Lighting Z-Wave Lighting Control Z-Wave News Z-Wave Product Z-Wave Programming Z-Wave Project Z-Wave Smart Home Z-Wave Switch Z-Wave Wireless Technology    /   0 Comments

Amateur mountain climber Mariusz Malkowski will demonstrate the home automation capabilities of Z-Wave wireless technology by controlling a raft of devices at this month's CEDIA Expo from the top of mount Cho Oyu, the sixth tallest mountain in the world.

Z-Wave's wireless technology is at the heart of all Vitrum products. It uses simple, reliable, low-power radio waves that easily travel through walls, floors and cabinets, designed specifically for remote control applications.

Using only his smartphone, Malkowski will attempt to control a variety of home automation scenes that are based at the Z-Wave booth at this month's CEDIA Expo in Denver, Colorado, from the top of mount Cho Oyo, in Tibet.

Due to the remote location of Cho Oyu - and its rugged environment - the challenge is being dubbed the "most remote home automation demonstration ever recorded."

Scenes will include locking and unlocking a Kwikset SmartCode, Deadbolt Lock, with Home Connect Technology, and adjusting temperature on his Remotec Thermostat, as well as controlling other Z-Wave Devices.

The whole purpose of the challenge is to showcase the dependability of Z-wave's wireless technology to homeowners, as well as highlighting the overall benefits of home automation.

Due the mountain's unpredictable weather, the time of the demonstration was yet to be determined and is dependent on the pace of of Malkowski's ascent. but Malkowski plans to broadcast a live video from the mountain's summit so that Expo attendees can watch the demonstration.
